World Maths day at The de Ferrers Academy!

World Maths day at The de Ferrers Academy!

Mathematics is so important in our everyday lives, and all of our year 7 students at The de Ferrers Academy were reminded of this on Friday, 14th October 2015 when they celebrated this event with an organised and fun filled World Maths Day organised by Maths Lead Teacher, Carl Roberts.

As part of the day, all Year 7 students were involved in various problem solving activities, using their Mathematic skills to solve a variety of puzzles.  The activities were be based in various areas around our Dove Campus and concluded with the minion challenge, a treasure hunt and a marble challenge. This year, students worked in small groups to solve the problems with the chance of winning House Points.

Carol Roberts, Maths Lead Teacher commented “Last Year's event proved to be a massive success with the students leaving the day enlighten and inspired by Mathematics. Following on from the day last year, Year 7 students took part in two further hands on Maths activities on bridge building and Mathematics and will be continued this year in Year 8 with three further activities. This day is important to our students as it gives them first hand experience as to the importance of Maths in our everyday life and whenever tackling problems. We are hoping as a Faculty that this year’s event will prove to be as an enriching day and lead our students into the future knowing the importance of Maths.”

The event was enjoyed by all.
