(Nottingham University)

These two routes are in addition to our PGCE partnership again with Nottingham University. Information about this approach can found on the link:

A brief overview of the two school based courses:

School-centred initial teacher training (SCITT):

SCITT programmes are delivered by a network of schools and focus on training as you teach.

School Direct (fee-funded):

School Direct (fee-funded) programmes are delivered by groups of schools in collaboration with a SCITT or university. The content and structure of a School Direct course is broadly similar to a SCITT course, each providing school-based training.

Many SCITT and School Direct (fee-funded) programmes give you a PGCE or PGDE (an academic qualification) in addition to QTS.

As an Academy, we offer the following benefits of studying with us:

  • Opportunity to train across a wide range of subjects

  • Working within a cohesive and supportive faculties

  • Experienced mentor to guide you through your training year

  • Trust wide training on a wide range of different areas of teaching from how students learn to working with students with special educational needs and disabilities

  • The Academy has 1 to 1 iPad’s therefore you will receive an iPad and a laptop to help with preparation and delivering of lessons

Views of two previous trainees:

“I have been on such a long journey through The de Ferrers Trust. I started out at De Ferrers as a student, and then completed my teaching training and now a teacher of Design and Technology. The de Ferrers Academy have shown me so much ongoing support through my career and the enrichment opportunities have made me the person I am today”

Miss O Eaglefield – John Taylor SCITT – Art and Design (2020/21) now teaching Design and Technology within the Academy

“I've thoroughly enjoyed training at The de Ferrers Academy! Working amongst such a successful, supportive department has been a definite highlight. Each member I have worked alongside has happily given their time to share their expertise and aid me in becoming the best teacher I can be!”

Miss A Gregory – Nottingham University – Mathematics (2021/22) will be joining the Mathematics team from September
