Consultation: Academy Day

We are consulting on changing the timings of the Academy day.

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to inform you that the Local Governing Body of The de Ferrers Academy has taken the decision to consult on a proposal to change the timings of the Academy day from September 2019.

The Principal and Local Governing Body are proposing to change the shape of the school day in order to facilitate additional training and development, as well as removing afternoon break from the daily cycle.

The start time for students will remain unchanged, with the Academy day commencing at 8:50am each day. Students will leave school at 3:10pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The 20 minute earlier finish is facilitated by the removal of the 15 minute afternoon break, as well as shortening the lunch break by 5 minutes. No learning time will be lost.

On Thursday, it is proposed that the Academy day will end an additional 20 minutes earlier at 2:50pm. This is in order to accommodate additional staff training and development to further enhance the quality of teaching and learning across the Academy. This time will be gained by there being no assembly or progress mentor time on a Thursday.

A summary of the proposal is shown below:

Mon, Tues, Weds, Fri

Full details of the proposal can be found on the school website and paper copies of the proposal can be supplied on request. Alternatively please ask your son or daughter to collect a copy from Support & Guidance (S&G), or you can pick up a copy from the Academy at your convenience. The reasons for the proposal can be found in the consultation document and on the school website.

The consultation runs until 9am on Wednesday 22ndMay and any feedback on the proposal should be sent to

Please take time to read the information on the website and/or in the consultation booklet and I look forward to hearing your views.

Kind regards,

Nick Holmes

This will be discussed at the Parents Focus Group on 14th May at 6pm (Trent Campus) should you wish to attend.
