Latest news from Nick Holmes
This has been an extremely busy term and both staff and students are looking forward to a well-earned break. The major aspect of the summer has been the examination season, during which our students took 14,533 individual exam papers and were superbly supported by the invigilation team. We even had our examinations inspection on the busiest day of the season! The students’ attitude was fantastic throughout, not only in the exams themselves, but also in the wide range of revision sessions which were run by colleagues. Consequently, we are looking forward to another set of strong results in August with large numbers of our students either joining the Sixth Form or moving on to university as the next stage in their education.
But even after the exams finished, there has been no “wind-down” – quite the opposite! Last week saw our new look KS3 Awards Evening and it was an absolute pleasure to see so many of our younger students receiving awards for progress, attainment and a wide range of extra-curricular success. That was followed by two further celebratory events – the Sixth Form Ball and the Y11 Prom – which were very well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by all. As I type, we are approaching the end of our first ACE Day and some happily weary travellers are returning from all points. Over the two days, over 1600 students will experience 44 activities as a culmination to the year.
But that still leaves next week, which will begin with our Y6/7 induction for both parents and future students, and we will also be holding Sports Day at Shobnall. Finally, if you have not yet bought a ticket, can I encourage you to watch our performance of “Boogie Nights” – the students have worked extremely hard to recapture that disco inferno of the 70s and you will be wonderfully entertained.
Let me end by taking the opportunity to wish all connected with the Academy a relaxing summer break.
