Wickerman Workshop success for Year 8!
This week, a small group of year 8 boys had the opportunity to attend a Design Technology workshop held at Alton Towers. This focus group of students had been working with their Key Stage Leader for a whole term previously with the incentive of earning a place on the trip. The workshop itself is brand new for 2018, and centers around the design and creation of the parks new ride the Wicker Man.
Students learnt all about the history, technical specifications, inspiration and construction of the wooden rollercoaster before working in small teams to construct their own rollercoaster segment out of wooden kapla building blocks. All students worked incredibly hard and demonstrated some excellent problem solving and team-working skills….the most fearless then went on to ride the £16,000,000 rollercoaster and experience the thrills of riding not only the first rollercoaster in the UK to be built of wood for over 21 years, but one that incorporates fire!
