Local company sponsors students at The de Ferrers Academy!

Monday 18 January 2015

Students Sam Woolley (aged 15) mand Lauren Swalwell (aged 17) of The de Ferrers Academy, have been sponsored by local business man Chris Ward for their 2016 motorbike racing season.  Sam and Lauren have both received brand new kit and a new bike for their annual event.

Sam started riding at the age of 6 at Burton and District Sporting Motorcycle Club.  Since 2009, Sam has completed three separate championship racing tracks including UK Short track, East Midlands and British Youth Grass Track.  After these events, Sam moved on to racing a 500cc speedway bike in 2015, finishing a credible 9th place in the British Under 16s.

Lauren started riding at the age of 13, and rode her first motorcycle in February 2012.  Lauren’s first race was in August 2012 in the Juniors at a motocross event.  Lauren joined the Burntwood Barracudas Motocross Club in December 2012, racing an 85cc race bike for the 2013 season.  Lauren was moved to the junior class due to her success in 2014, and will be riding a race bike that is more capable of competing against the 250cc bikes for the 2016 season.

Chris Ward of C J Ward Stove Enamelling commented, “I’m pleased to sponsor Lauren Swalwell and Sam Woolley, students at The de Ferrers Academy, in the forthcoming 2016 season and wish them every success.”
