Extra-Curricular Activities

In addition to the academic timetable and work that students are involved in, there are many ways for students to develop their personal interests and enhance their CVs through our societies, sports teams and other opportunities.

Student societies

We have a range of student societies that are set up and run by students including debating society, fundraising society and festivity society as well as other activities throughout the year.

Debating society meets weekly and students take part in inter-schools competitions. This is a great way to build confidence in public speaking and makes a good addition to a CV or personal statement.

In 2017, our fundraising society raised enough money to sponsor a guide dog for a blind person, and paid for the costs of the training. The guide dog was named by the students (Luna), and she has since visited the Academy with it's grateful new owner.

Melad Mohammed - Year 13 Student

"Fundraising is a big part of Sixth Form life. There are so many opportunities to help others whilst developing ourselves as young adults. This is a really rewarding way to spend time outside of our studies. Recently we held a coffee morning and a charity basketball match to raise money for Cancer Research."

The Festivity society are responsible for all sorts of cultural celebrations and events on campus. Each time there is some kind of festival, students will decorate areas of the sixth form, host activities such as pumpkin carving competitions, Easter egg hunts and more. Last year, they organised a Santa dash to raise money for a local homeless charity in Burton.

The de Ferrers Academy has sports teams for football, rugby, cricket, netball, hockey and more. If you want to take part in a sport, and the club doesn't yet exist - why not suggest it? We often host staff vs student matches, and matches against other schools. You can follow our sports clubs on Twitter at @deferrerssport

DofE and World Challenge

Students at The de Ferrers Academy are given the opportunity to take part in DofE in from Year 9. In 2017, we had 70 Year 12 and 13 students complete their Gold award.
