Unique Teacher Training model at The de Ferrers Academy
The de Ferrers Academy is the lead school of The de Ferrers Trust Partnership. We are working in partnership with The University of Nottingham and The John Taylor SCITT in order to deliver teaching training opportunities across a wide variety of subjects.
The University of Nottingham is a Russell Group institution that is rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted to deliver a unique, exciting and bespoke School Direct teacher training programme in 2018-2019.
The John Taylor SCITT, offering both primary and secondary programmes is based at John Taylor School. The SCITT is a relatively small provider and as a consequence prides itself on knowing all trainees well and being able to offer highly personalised support
The de Ferrers Academy became an Apple Regional Training Centre (RTC) in October 2013. This was in recognition of the transformational work that has taken place in teaching and learning within the Academy through the use of Apple Technology. As such we are now considered to be a global leader in the enhancement and transformation of teaching and learning through the use of Apple Technology, including iPad, iPod and iMac. This was confirmed in December 2015 through our recognition as an Apple Distinguished Programme school.
All teaching staff and all Key Stage 4 and Sixth Form students currently have their own iPad. These are used to transform the way in which learning takes place within the Academy. The Academy also has 2 Apple Distinguished Educators (ADEs) on its staff and runs a diverse range of training courses and CPD opportunities for staff from across the region and from further afield, as well as having numerous strong international links with other educational institutions through our work in this field.
Our School Direct training programme for 2019-2020 will, in addition to the core elements of the course, also incorporate a bespoke, additional training dimension and developmental tasks focusing on the use of learning technologies to transform teaching and learning. Significant support, training and additional resources will be focused on this element of the training and applicants should note this element to the provision that will provided when considering de Ferrers as their training provider. We believe that this additional support will empower staff to redefine teaching and learning in the classroom.
We are offering training places on the School Direct (tuition fee) route in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, History, French, Art and design, Physical Education and Design and Technology for 2019-2020.
Other schools within our partnership are; Eton Park Junior, A de Ferrers Trust Academy; Horninglow Primary, A de Ferrers Trust Academy; Lansdowne, A de Ferrers Trust Academy; The Pingle Academy and Granville Academy.
In addition to the programmes offered at The de Ferrers Academy, we also offer Primary training routes through our other partnership institutions.
