Ofsted Reports

The de Ferrers Academy underwent an extremely successful Ofsted inspection on 24/25 January 2017.

Leaders are determined that all pupils should achieve as well as they can. Their relentless focus on improving teaching is the reason that standards of achievement have improved considerably since the previous inspection. Teaching and outcomes are now both outstanding

January  2017

The report states that teaching is of a consistently high quality across all key stages and that teachers have consistently high expectations. There are strong relationships between staff and students who are “engaged in challenging tasks that stretch them.”

Disadvantaged pupils achieve the same high standards as their peers in almost all subjects. Their progress is better than non- disadvantaged pupils nationally.

The report also praises the Academy’s 1:1 iPad programme, particularly referencing strengths in lesson planning and the provision of feedback. Inspectors draw attention to the rapid progress made by all groups of students and they have the view that “this trajectory of improvement will continue in the coming years.”

Inspectors found the Academy’s students to be “articulate, conscientious and keen to do well”, as well as being smartly dressed and proud of the school. Their view of behaviour is that both campuses are “calm and orderly”, with students who are sensible, courteous and polite to each other and to adults. The report states that students feel safe at the Academy and it emphasises the work done to support students’ wellbeing, “Pupils in Y11 and sixth-form students told inspectors that they particularly valued the school’s support in combating examination stress.” There is also praise for the quality of pastoral support and the strong governance at the Academy.
