Termly topics

Our Termly Topics provide parents and carers with a clear overview of what students are learning throughout the academic year. For each year group, they outline the topics being studied in every subject during the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms. This helps families understand what their child is currently learning, what they will move on to next, and how their knowledge and understanding develop across the year.

By having a clearer picture of the curriculum, parents and carers can play an important role in supporting learning at home. You do not need to be an expert in the subjects your child is studying. Simply showing an interest and talking regularly about their learning can help reinforce the importance of what they are doing at school.

Parents and carers can support their child by:

• Asking what they have been learning about in a particular subject and encouraging them to explain it in their own words.
• Using the Termly Topics to start conversations about current and upcoming areas of study.
• Encouraging their child to revisit previous learning and make connections between different topics.
• Helping establish positive routines for homework, reading and independent study;
• Discussing how topics studied at school connect with everyday life, current events and future careers; and
• Celebrating effort, progress and curiosity, as well as achievement.
