“Another day filled with pride” at The de Ferrers Academy

There were many smiling faces at The de Ferrers Academy this morning, as students bucked the national trend to secure an impressive set of GCSE results.

Across the academy, outcomes exceeded the results achieved in 2019 - the last comparable set of results before the pandemic.

Ali Bickle, Principal, commented: “This is just another day filled with pride, and I am so delighted with the achievements of the Year 11 students. They have not only continually shown what a talented and caring group of young people they are, but they have also demonstrated real resilience and determination. 

“I would like to thank the staff, parents and carers for their overwhelming support. It demonstrates first-hand what can be achieved when we all work in partnership.”

Amongst the smiling faces were eleven students who secured an amazing 114 exam grades above a 7 (or equivalent) – with 53 of those outcomes being a coveted Grade 9.

Overall, the students achieved more 600 grade 7’s and a massive 133 grade 9’s  

  • Ahmed Ahmed (7 x 9s, 1 x 8, 2 x 7s, L2D*)

Ahmed is going to study Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Computer Science at the de Ferrers Sixth. He wanted to personally thank Maths teacher, Mr Tompkins, for his inspirational teaching.

  • Gioele Bovolenta (7 x 9s, 2 x 8, 1 x 7, L2M)

Gioele Bovolenta

Gio found inspiration utilising current A-level students. They supported him and mentored him to achieving such fabulous results. Gio is now going to study Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Politics at the de Ferrers Sixth Form. Gio’s ambition is a career in the financial sector.

  • Saffron Creighton (7 x 9s, 2 x 7, L2D*, L2D)

Saffron is hoping for careers in the medical profession and and is going on to study Chemistry, Biology, PE and Psychology at the de Ferrers Sixth Form. Saffron’s advice to anyone wanting to perform well is to have a balanced lifestyle and do things you enjoy.

  • Josephine Holling (6 x 9s, 2 x 8s, 1 x 7, 1 x 6, L2D*)

Josephine is very thankful to her friends and family for all their support. She is going on to the de Ferrers Sixth Form to study PE, Psychology, Geography and French. Josephine’s tip is to ensure you go into every exam knowing that you have done the best you can. No regrets!

Tom would like to thank Maths teacher Mr Tompkins for all of his support over the past 2 years. Tom’s biggest tip to success is to revise early. Tom is going on to study Maths, Chemistry and biology at the de Ferrers Sixth Form

  • Danni Lupton (3 x 9s, 4 x 8s, 4 x 7s)

Danni Lupton

Danni is particularly grateful to her English teachers for all of their support. Her biggest tip for success is to revise in a way that is good for you as there are lots of ways to revise. Danni is goiong on to study Maths, Economics and Photography at the de Ferrers Sixth Form.

  • Faith Staley (3 x 9s, 3 x 8s, 3 x 7s, 1 x 6, L2D*)

Faith’s highlight of her GCSE years was achieving excellent grades which was evident of all the hard work that she had put in. Faith is going to the de Ferrers Sixth Form to study Maths, Further Maths and Physics.

  • Amy Godden (5 x 9s, 3 x 8’s, 1 x 7, L2D*, 1 x 5)
  • Jessica Ellis (6 x 9s, 3 x 8s, L2D*, 1 x 6)
  • Eshaal-Nadeem Khatana (1 x 9, 4 x 8s, 4 x 7s, 1 x A*, 1 x L2D*)
  • Hiba Ahmed (2 x 9s, 4 x 8s, 3 x 7s, 1 x 6, 1 x L2D*)
  • Samuel Rodgers (2 x 9s, 4 x 8s, 4 x 7s, 1 x L2D)
  • Willow Hickinbottom (2 x 9s, 2 x 8s, 6 x 7s, 1 x L2D*)
  • Samuel Hadley (1 x 9, 6 x 8s, 2 x 7s, 1 x L2D*)

Greg Hand, Head of the Trent campus (Vice Principal), commented, “I am so very proud of the Year 11 students who have demonstrated outstanding commitment during their time at de Ferrers. 

“It has been very testing for them over the years and these results show just how versatile our students are. The students who took advantage of every opportunity and intervention offered to them have performed incredibly well. I wish them all the very best of luck in the future.”

Other notable students include Illia Titov, who joined the academy in September 2022 from the Ukraine and secured a hugely impressive 3 x 8s, 2 x 5s, 1 x 4 and a L2P).

Twins Annie and Daisy Bickle achieved between them 5 x 9s, 8 x  8s, 5 x 7s, 1 x A*, 1 x 6 and 2 x L2D*).

Both girls are going to the de Ferrers Sixth Form. Annie is going on to study Biology, Chemistry and Maths with aspirations of being a vet. Daisy is study PE, Sociology and Biology with her sights set on a career in Physiotherapy. The key to success is to revise early and be fully prepared for every exam.

  • Angela Leung (7 x 9s, 2 x 8’s, 1 x 7, L2D*)

Angela Leung, the highest performing student at the academy was delighted with her results. She is continuing at the de Ferrers Sixth Form to study Maths, English Language, Business Studies and French. Angela’s top tip is to literally try your best, as nobody can ask more of you than that.

 

Kathy Hardy, CEO of The de Ferrers Trust added: “Today is a hugely important day, and one where our students deserve all the plaudits and praise.  “Their hard work has paid off allowing them to now continue their educational journey, and I am so excited that with more than 200 students joining The de Ferrers Academy Sixth Form.
